BIO

Joe is a partner with Cox & Palmer’s Halifax office and practises primarily in the areas of insurance and general litigation.  A proud native of St. Peter’s, Cape Breton, Joe joined the firm in 2006 after spending several years in private practice with a large firm, acting as in-house counsel for a major insurer and then working as an aide to a minister in the federal government.

A resident of downtown Halifax, Joe is actively involved in his community and takes an interest in a variety of issues and organizations. Among other roles, Joe serves as national Vice-President of Development & Peace, the Canadian arm of Caritas Internationalis, which is the world’s second largest international development and humanitarian relief organization.

Experience

Through Joe’s insurance and litigation practice, he provides advice to major insurers, utilities, municipalities, and other commercial and institutional clients, appearing before all levels of court.  He routinely deals with all types of property and casualty claims, coverage issues, and other matters of strategic interest to the insurance industry. He has successfully negotiated numerous settlements both informally and through mediation.
