Meaghan Hughes is a Partner in the Cox & Palmer’s Charlottetown office. She has over a decade of experience, practicing primarily in the areas of public law, employment and labour law, administrative law and municipal law. She regularly acts as legal counsel to public and private sector employers, large municipal and institutional clients.

Meaghan has represented clients in a variety of matters at all levels of court in Prince Edward Island, the Supreme Court of Canada and administrative tribunals.

Meaghan spent five years in the public service of the Government of Prince Edward Island serving as a lawyer and as Director of Legal and Legislative Services. As lawyer, she acted as lead counsel for the province in a broad range of litigation, regulatory and administrative proceedings. She also advised government in all forms of public legal practice including administrative law, constitutional law, statutory interpretation and privacy matters.

Open and approachable, Meaghan works closely with her clients to gather all the important details at the outset so that she can provide advice tailored to their needs with a goal of achieving timely resolutions.

  • Acts for licensing body relating to licensing and provides governance and regulatory advice.

  • Provides legal advice to the executive branch of the Government of Prince Edward Island.
