Jim is Counsel in our Charlottetown office. He joined the firm in April 2020 from Macnutt & Dumont, the firm he co-founded.. Jim attended Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law, finishing in 1965. He was called to the Prince Edward Island Bar in 1969, and completed his Masters in Law at the University of Ottawa in 1974. Jim received his Queen’s Counsel designation in 1990.
Jim practices predominantly in the areas of administrative law, general & civil litigation, insurance litigation, corporate & commercial, corporate governance, corporate services, criminal, defence – security & marine, estate litigation, estates & trusts and real estate law.
Jim is a man of many facets, and, aside from his law practice, he is a history enthusiast, historical preservationist, author, and an active volunteer in his community. He has been recognized by many organizations for his dedication for his work at hand.

- Appointed to Prince Edward island’s first Legislative Counsel and law Clerk to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Prince Edward Island (1972-75)

- Appointed to the Fathers of Confederation Centre Building Trust – 3 year term; re-appointed for a second term (1986-93)
- Prepared White Paper proposal for new Family Law Act, for the Legislature, requested by the Premier Ghiz (1995-96)
