Claire Dowden is an Associate in our St. John’s office. There, Claire is building a practice in the areas of labour and employment law, insurance litigation, administrative law, and human rights law. Prior to being called to the Newfoundland and Labrador Bar in June 2024, Claire spent her summers at and articled with Cox & Palmer.
Before earning her Juris Doctor from Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law in 2023, Claire attended Memorial University of Newfoundland where she earned her Bachelor of Arts. Upon her convocation in 2020, Claire was awarded the University Gold Medal for attaining the highest grades in her discipline, as well as the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence.
During law school, Claire served as Vice President of Student Life on the Dalhousie Law Students’ Society; she also volunteered with the Student Advocacy Service, where she represented students facing allegations of academic misconduct. These experiences, among others, have helped Claire to hone both her written and oral advocacy skills.
When not behind her dual monitors or listening obsessively to Taylor Swift, you can find Claire enjoying a local restaurant or emanating the same in her own kitchen (with lots of scraps for her sheepadoodle, Murphy).
