Gender Pay Equity in the Legal Profession
A recent series of articles in the Globe and Mail has brought the issue of gender pay equity in Canadian private practice law firms to the forefront. We appreciate their efforts to bring public focus to this issue.
Cox & Palmer is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion; this must include pay equity. In recent years, we have been proud to have achieved gender parity amongst our managing partners and our Board of Directors and a steadily improving gender balance amongst partners.
We have conducted internal reviews of our compensation systems, and have concluded that a more formal review, with the assistance of third party subject matter experts, is an important next step to ensure that our compensation and benefits regimes are free of systemic or unconscious bias. While this process, and its results, will deal with matters that are confidential and private to Cox & Palmer, we are open to sharing information with appropriate professional governing bodies, subject to privacy safeguards, with a view to achieving greater fairness and equity in the legal profession.
We look forward to continuing the ongoing dialogue aimed at bringing greater fairness and equity to our profession.
