Cox & Palmer Announces Five New Partners

We are pleased to announce five new partners at Cox & Palmer: Matthew Gorman (Halifax), Laura Hanusiak (Halifax), Nicola Watson (Halifax), Luke Hayden (St. John’s) and Meaghan Hughes (Charlottetown).

A member of our Halifax team, Matthew has extensive experience within the music, entertainment, intellectual property, and digital rights space, where he advises performers, producers, songwriters, composers, managers, record labels, and many more in the entertainment industry. Matthew regularly negotiates and drafts commercial and entertainment contracts of all kinds, and advises clients on international industry standards, rights management issues, and assists in dispute resolution. Matthew’s clients include Grammy and Juno award winning talent.

Laura, also based in Halifax, maintains a busy immigration law practice as part of our corporate and commercial group. She works with clients to help prepare and submit a wide range of immigration applications, including applications for permanent residence under the Family Class, the Atlantic Immigration Program, and a variety of Provincial Nominee Program applications, as well as applications for temporary residence. Laura is the recent past Chair of the Citizenship and Immigration Section of the Canadian Bar Association’s Nova Scotia Chapter.

Nicola, who is also in our Halifax office, has a practice focused on Litigation as well as Employment & Labour law. Nicola regularly advises her clients on contract disputes, property and construction litigation, and commercial claims, as well as a broad range of employment-related issues.

Luke, a member of our St. John’s team, specializes in tax, corporate, and commercial law, advising both emerging and established companies. His expertise spans a wide range of areas, including organizational structures, corporate reorganizations, investment and financing, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and shareholder matters. Luke is an active member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and is currently completing the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course.

Meaghan, based in our Charlottetown office, has over a decade of experience in public law, employment and labour law, administrative law, and municipal law. She regularly serves as legal counsel to public and private sector employers, as well as municipal and institutional clients. Meaghan also spent five years in the public service of the Government of Prince Edward Island, serving as a lawyer and Director of Legal and Legislative Services.
