The Honourable Clyde Wells in a suit and tie.

The Honourable Clyde K. Wells, KC

Strategic Advisor
St. John's

Clyde has had an extensive political and legal career making significant contributions to Newfoundland and Labrador. He served as an elected official within the province for varying periods after his first election in 1966, and later served as the fifth Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador from 1989-1996. In between, he built a thriving legal practice.

Upon his departure from politics, Clyde joined one of this firm’s predecessor firms and practiced with us for two and a half years prior to his appointment as a justice of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador (Court of Appeal). He was appointed Chief Justice of the province in 1999, a position he held for 10 years until he chose to step down. Clyde remained as a supernumerary justice of the appellate court until his full retirement from the bench in November 2012.

Clyde was appointed Chair of the Cox & Palmer Board in January 2014, a position he held until December 2017. The Board has since named him Chairman Emeritus.

In his role as Strategic Advisor to the firm, Clyde’s availability and strategic advice is a tremendous asset to our team.
